There are car men. There are truck men. There are tractor men. If you fall into the third category, no doubt you enjoy reading about your favorite subject. For you, we offer a quick list of some great books about tractors.

If you are a John Deere enthusiast, there are plenty of volumes out there to feast on. Consider, for example, “The John Deere Story,” by Neil and Jeremy Dahlstrom. This book is the story of John Deere and his transition from 19th-century blacksmith to his work developing the modern plow. The writing is well-detailed and is a great glimpse back at the history of industrialization and the changes it would bring to farming.

There are many other John Deere-related books to think about. Consider “The John Deere Two-Cylinder Tractor Encyclopedia,” or perhaps “Legendary John Deere Tractors: A Photographic History,” by Andrew Morland. Another popular option is “John Deere: A history of the Tractor,” by Randy Leffingwell.

Andrew Morland’s comprehensive book “Legendary Farm Tractors: A Photographic History,” include pictures and captions for tractors that date as far back as the 1880s. There are a variety of popular brands included in the book, such as Ford, Caterpillar, Case, Farmall and much more, including a very unique Porsche tractor that was used on a coffee plantation.

For good farming fun, consider the book “101 Uses for an Old John Deere” This book, written by Cletus Hohman, includes plenty of unusual ideas, as well as detailed illustrations or photographs of each of the “uses.” This book would make an excellent gift for the tractor lover in your life.

Finally, enjoy a nostalgic volume about the joys and struggles of farming with the book, “This Old Tractor: A Treasury of Vintage Tractors and Family Farm Memories,” by Michael Dregni. In addition to wonderful old tractor ads and magazine covers, you’ll find photographs, farm-themed paintings, cartoons and plenty of stories about the family tractor.
